The sims 3 patch error?

I am having trouble with my sims 3 ambitions game.I didnt download an update for a while and its been like a month or so sense i played the game, so i went to try it says that its not compatabile with the base game and to update from the game launcer. So i waited and waited.....and the game launcer just loads and never works.

can someone help?

I tried to do some reserch but i didnt want to download something i shouldnt have.The sims 3 patch error?
